Our custom designed and fabricated 13.5ft Truncated Icosahedron a.k.a #WonderDome morphs into an art installation and launches at #BM2019

Considering I’d never been to a regional burn like Flipside (Austin’s local Burn) and being a #BM2019 virgin a.k.a ‘Burgin’, I really had no idea on how much time, energy, planning, preparation and sacrifice people make on this trip to build this city entirely from scratch..

So first, I’d like to take a moment to thank all the camp leaders, teams, creatives and artists that work endless hours behind the scenes to contribute something unique to this effort, support the mission and turn projects into reality.

So as a Burgin, I completely dove in at the deep end here.. People plan this journey 1 year out and literally 1 month out, I’m scrambling at the possibility of having the #wonderdome ready, shipped out AND get a ticket! Tip: Get your ticket early.

After pre-registering for the OMG Sale where tickets were sold out in the first 2 minutes, I had to resort to ‘ticket begging’ in every #bm2019 ticket forum I could find online, I was promoted to ‘Level 1 ticket beggar’ and eventually got one 2 weeks out.

We were extremely lucky to join the wonderful #ArunaFire dancers camp from Austin, TX who kindly allowed us to build our custom designed and fabricated 13.5ft Truncated Icosahedron #WonderDome community space project as an art installation and landmark on site at 5:30 and Diana.

Here's a list of accomplishments on this mission:

  • Partnered with the ArunaFire Dancers camp.

  • Received Early Access pass to join the build team and set up camp, shade, prepare #Playatech furniture and infrastructure.

  • Built 13.5ft #WonderDome structure

  • Built 2nd smaller 8.5ft personal dome which we used to store our belongings and sleep in.

  • Shipped my dhol drum and jammed with the Aruna Fire dancers drummers team.

  • Shipped my pool cue, beat 6 players at Corner Pocket including the tournament champion with an awesome long bank shot that rolled nicely into the corner pocket..

  • Shipped my Urb-E folding electric scooter, pimped it out with some LED’s and rode it all over the Playa.

  • Shipped my #Hackthemattress furniture project with some custom cut UV protected fabric to provide seating / resting in shade comfort in the community dome.

  • Shipped my tea tasting set, kettle, french press and some awesome Jasmine Tea, Omija Berry and Spiced Chai tea for our community thanks to our friends at @RishiTea

  • Danced on the playa through a Sand Storm.

  • Partied on an art car AND drank Miso Soup in my plastic container since I lost my cup.

  • Ran into my friends at Hackaday who built ‘The Dwelling’ (below) on the playa.

  • Hung out at the Rangers bar.

  • Shot 360 photo / Video of the burn.
